The Oily Health Journey: The Beginning

When do you find time to do that?!? This is a question I’m always asking people and that I wish I knew the answer to.  A friend once told me that I’m always saying “well I literally just do NOT have time to do that in a day!” she responded to me by saying. “No Brooke, you choose and prioritize what YOU want to do…so if that’s not at the top of your list, you don’t do it”.

Ouch! what a harsh but true reality.

As a full time working wife and mom of an 8 month old girl, I get the time crunch, I really do! And I have help from my wonderful husband.  I can’t even imagine what life would look like if I were to be trying to accomplish everything on my own.

Recently, I have made my health a priority.  To be more specific, in the last few months I’ve actively embarked on my very real and ongoing health journey that we’re all on but may not participate in or even be aware of in the midst of our busy lives.

I feel myself feeling tired often, stressed, and just always out of time and I think to myself….is this what life looks like for the next 20 to 30 years? My answer is NO..because  I’m in the driver seat of my life and my body.  That’s not to say there are so many things that are out of my control…but making healthy choices for myself is something I CAN control and that I chose to.

I had heard about the benefits of essential oils and particularly about young living three years ago when I was too young and too broke to invest my time, energy, and finances.  Boy when I look back do I regret that.

Essential oils are some of the oldest known medicine to man.  The Ebers papayrus reveals medical knowledge using oils dating all the way back to 1550 BC.  Historically oils have been used for a variety of health, spiritual, and beauty practices.  Even the bible has over 500 references to herbs and essential oils, probably the most memorable being that baby Jesus was given Frankincense and Myrrh, sacred oils. There’s so much to explaining even the beginning of all there is to know about essential oils.  I have linked a post where I explain it in more depth here.

Young living has completely transformed the way I look at’s so much more than essential oils, it’s truly a lifestyle.  My friends often roll their eyes at me and think I’m a “granola girl” but OH my gosh, when you learn about the company, the products, and the benefits backed by hard science…it seriously will blow your mind!  It’s crazy to say, but I can’t imagine what I did before I started using Young Living products.

What did I do before when I felt overwhelmed, restless, unfocused, stressed, sad, tired…when I was sick, had a headache, had a rash, an itch…I mean literally ANYTHING!  I use my oils all day everyday and it feel SO empowering to feel so in control of my health y’all! The oils support so many different body systems in so many different ways.  The empowerment is really my favorite part..but I’ll get to that later.

This is a feeling that also did not come right away when I started using oils.  It’s not some magic cure one drop and poof! you’re all better.

It’s learning about your body, about how it works and why you react to the environment the way you do.  What I’ve learned the most from my oil journey is that it’s not about the quick fix for the symptom like rushing to antibiotics to knock out that cold …it’s a much larger picture than that.

I’ve learned about my body system, how to properly care and nurture it to try and prevent sickness in the first place.  I’m trying to make our home medicine and toxin free and create and healthier lifestyle and knowledge base for my husband and children.

Trust me, once you get started it’s addicting..and FUN!

If starting to use and discover the power of essential oils is something you’re interested in, please please please feel free to ask me question! I absolutely love educating. Below is a link to get you started.  Happy oiling!
